The totalizer enables multi-level metering of energy generation, distribution, and consumption, as well as monitoring of power and energy consumption by consumers with any power supply scheme. Metering can be organized for the entire enterprise or its divisions by time zones, days, and billing periods. Currently, the SEM-2.01 totalizer is produced; the SEM-2 totalizer has been discontinued. Two versions of the SEM-2.01 totalizer, V2.18.xx and V4.18.xx, are currently available. These differ in minor firmware and hardware, but do not affect the totalizer's operation.

The totalizer is a complete device designed for use in automated commercial and technical metering systems (ACMS) and for monitoring electricity and power consumption. Its built-in display, keyboard, and remote control allow it to be used as a stand-alone device. The totalizer can be used by energy supply companies and power system dispatch services to quickly collect information on electricity generation and consumption and implement consumption restrictions.
