Asian infrastructure investment Bank can Finance transport projects in Belarus

The possibility of financing by the Asian Bank of infrastructure investments (AIIB) projects in the transport sector of Belarus was discussed at the annual meeting of the Board of governors of the AIIB in Luxembourg, which was attended by the Minister of economy of Belarus Dmitry Krutoy.


During the meeting, a meeting of the Belarusian side with the leadership and management of the Bank: Vice-President, investment Jagatyam by Pandian, Vice President for corporate Affairs Danny Alexander, a senior Advisor to the President of the Bank Konstantin Limitovsky, General Director of investment operations Supe Teravainen, and a member of the Board of Directors from the Russian by Gregory Butenyl.

The Asian infrastructure investment Bank is an international financial institution proposed by China. The Bank started its operations in January 2016 and currently has 100 approved member countries. The largest shareholders of the Bank are China, India and Russia. The aim of the AIIB, in particular, is to promote sustainable economic development and improve business relations in Asia by investing in infrastructure and other productive sectors of the economy, as well as promoting regional cooperation. Priority areas of financing: energy, transport, water supply and water treatment, urban development and infrastructure. Considerable attention is paid to environmental protection projects. The total investment of the AIIB in 2018 reached $7.5 billion.

Belarus became a member of the Bank on 17 January 2019. This is the debut participation of representatives of our country in the events of the AIIB.
