Main economic indicators of small and medium-sized businesses of the Republic of Belarus in 2017

20.05.2018. As at 1 January 2018, 110 thsd small and medium-sized business entities engaged in business activity in the Republic of Belarus, of which 96 thsd micro-enterprises (87% of the total number of small and medium-sized business entities), 12 thsd small enterprises (11%) and 2 thsd medium enterprises (2%).


In 2017, the prevailing economic activities in small and medium-sized entrepreneurship were as follows:

Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (37% of the total enterprises and individual entrepreneurs);

Transportation, warehousing, postal and courier activities (11%);

Professional, scientific and technical activities (9%);

Industry (8%);

Construction (8%).

The average employment in micro-, small and medium enterprises, including the number of individual entrepreneurs and employees engaged by them, in 2017 was 1 442 thsd persons (33.5% of the total national employment).

The sales revenues of small and medium-sized business entities made up BYN 123 bn in 2017, which is 42.8% of the total national revenues.

The contribution of small and medium-sized business entities in GDP for 2017 was 24.7%, where small business entities accounted for 14.9%, medium-sized business entities accounted for 6.7%, and individual entrepreneurs accounted for 3.1%.
